You will find all the background to this story on the Ampallang page, and you can also find out my feelings about the septum here (and I did ditch my girlfriend incidentally:) I had this piercing performed at the same time as my Ampallang, so I won’t go in to much non related detail here, so having overcome the negative feedback / opinions of those who should know better, I decided to go for it (the septum).
